Franco Poli is born in Padua. In 1950 he began his studies at the Faculty of Architecture of Venice I.U.A.V.. In 1971 he attended the International University of Art of Venice where he met Richard Fuller and Isamu Noguchi.
In 1974 he left his studies and devoted himself professionally to Design with the first project of industrial design which will remain in production from 1974 to 2000. Since 1977 collaborates with the Bernini s.p.a. of which he became artistic director in 1979, contributing to the catalog and image until 2009.
In 1986 he was called by Franco Moschini (along with Lenci and Talocci) for the creation of the aircraft division of Poltrona Frau and a "bed system" of high-tech, and contributing also to the formal definition of the series " Forum" . In the same year he opened a studio in Venice and collaborates as a guest trainer with the ' UIA of Florence, the C.N.R. and the Politecnico of Milan, in 1989 he was asked to teach the Design course in the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, a position from which he will resign in 1996.
In the nineties, he passionately takes care of the community of Design in Italy and founded several associations of Design, among which the CNAD of Rome and a Trans-national Mediterranean Design School in Reggio Calabria.
From 1988 to 2010 he held a series of conferences and meetings on Design in S. Paulo , Quito , Tokyo, Los Angeles , Mexico City , Miami and New York. Since 1995, his "Flying Chair" is in the permanent collection of the " Denver Art Museum ", then numerous creations will be acquired by the " Fonds National d'Art Contemporain " in Paris, the " Magma Museum" in Roccamonfina , the collection " Farnesina Design " of Rome and by the Triennale Museum in Milan.
In 2009 he contributed with the donation of some designs , auctioned by Sotheby's, in the initiative of the FAI for the conservation of the house museum "Necchi Campiglio" by Piero Portaluppi .
In 2007 he won the " DesignX , Australian Design Award." In 2005 and 2007 he received the Good Design Award of the Chicago Atenaeum . In 2008 he took an Honorable Mention at the XXI Compasso d ' Oro for the collection LOOM . From 2007 to 2010 furnishes the reception areas “Le Bombarde”, the Bookshop and Caffè Italia at the Biennale of Art and Architecture of Venice.
Among the many international exhibitions we point out: "Spectrum " at the Royal College of Art; " Masterworks , Italian Design 1960-1994 " in Denver ; "Dolce Stilnovo , domestic landscape in contemporary Italy" at the Kaohsiung Museum in Taipei and the "First International Design Triennial of Beijin".
